Dems Admit Defeat

Today I saw an article that put my mind at ease, especially with the news that CBS thinks that the president isn't doing a good job anymore (which goes to show just how little polls really matter). From this week's The Onion:

WASHINGTON, DC—In a press conference on the steps of the Capitol Monday, Congressional Democrats announced that, despite the scandals plaguing the Republican Party and widespread calls for change in Washington, their party will remain true to its hopeless direction.

"We are entirely capable of bungling this opportunity to regain control of the House and Senate and the trust of the American people," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said to scattered applause. "It will take some doing, but we're in this for the long and pointless haul."

In my opinion, this statement has been so obvious and I know that I've been waiting to hear it for a while now. It just goes to show how incapable of leading the Dems really are. First of all, Reid isn't even trying to change the public opinion of his party.

Furthermore, as House Minorty Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) noted,

"In times like these, when the American public is palpably dismayed with the political status quo, it is crucial that Democrats remain unfocused and defer to the larger, smarter, and better-equipped Republican machine," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said. "If we play our cards right, we will be intimidated to the point of total paralysis."

I have a better idea. Why don't you guys just give up? Later in the article the Dems try and cheer themselves up by talking about the Katrina incident. A story such as this doesn't need to be qualified by such minor mistakes on someone else's part. It's time they stopped trying to shift the blame to the Republicans.

It's really depressing when The Onion starts repeating this meme. Interesting story in the NYT about only 31 competitive House races this year because of redistricting.

Now why did you have to go and make another Cheney hunting joke? It wasn't a big deal! It wasn't information we needed to have, anyway.
